Mountain Climbing:-Kilimanjaro>5 Days Marangu Route

The Marangu Route is a 7-day, 6-night climb of Africa's highest mountain. The Marangu route is the most popular Kilimanjaro climb and is nicknamed the 'Coca-cola' route followed by ninety percent of all climbers. The path is well defined as 'climb friendly' to make your adventure a little easier. The popular Kilimanjaro climb offers accommodation at Mandara, Horombo, and Kibo en route and accommodation on this route consists of built mountain huts providing adequate shelter, bottled water, beer and soft drinks. This is a very scenic route with good views of Mawenzi and excellent prospects for viewing wildlife. The ascent is via the eastern face of the mountain and covers about 80km. The descent is via the same route as the ascent.

ITINERARY

Transfer from KIA ( Kilimanjaro International Airport ) for Marangu, at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro , to your Lodge or campsite for dinner and overnight.

Day 1 - The first day climb is to Manadara Hut (2,743m). From the park entrance, to which transport from your hotel is arranged, the climber enters the rain forest. It is a 3hrs walk to the first hut, through verdant scenery. The forest steems with bird life, and colbus monkey and other monkeys might be seen.

Day 2 - The secend day trek to Horombo Hut (3,760m) is about ten miles and takes 5 to 6 hours. about half an hour after leaving Mandara hut, the climber emerges from the rain forst into alpine meadow. This is very pretty day, with splendid view possible of the two peaks and of the plains below the mountain. The vegatation is also very spectacular especially higher up, where giant lobelias and scenes may be seen.

Day 3 - Climbing continues to Kibo Hut (4,730m), which is at the foot of Kibo peak. The route takes the climber up to saddle between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi, and then accross the high altitude desert to the hut. The climber takes about six hours.

Day 4 - This day in the morning you will be back from the summit at Uhuru peak (5,895m). the climber return to Horombo for overnight

Day 5-Climbers descend to Marangu gate where a waiting vehicle to get back in hotel in Moshi /airport fly back home.

Check List - Items will be needed for mountain treks
• Waterproof rucksack & daypack
• Sleeping Bag inflatable
• Hiking Boots: This is the most important item on the list. You'll need a comfortable/waterproof pair of hiking boots which offer plenty of support. Make sure they are not broken in before you get to Kilimanjaro!
• Light trainers might also be useful.
• Warm heavy weight gloves/mittens
• Wide brimmed hat
• Warm scarf
• Snow goggles / Sunglasses
• Sweaters/ trekking pants and jacket (wind- and waterproof)
• Long sleeved shirts
• Pair of light loose fitting cotton trousers
